The new digital bank

More than 1 million Paraguayans gain access to the banking system for the first time with ueno bank

In an unprecedented milestone, ueno bank announced that it has successfully included into the financial system more than 1 million Paraguayans, more than 20% of the adult population in the country.

A study conducted by Equifax Paraguay S.A., the country’s leading credit bureau, shows that since its launching ueno bank in 2021, it has enabled more than one million Paraguayans who had never held a bank account to access the banking system for the first time. This reflects the greatest progress in financial inclusion achieved by any bank in Paraguay in history and marks a structural shift in access to financial services.

The exponential growth in customers is a clear demonstration of the success of ueno bank’s digital-first model. From the outset, the institution set out to offer world-class financial services to all Paraguayans, without exception. At ueno bank, anyone can open an account 100% digitally in under 4 minutes and gain immediate, simple, and secure access to the financial system.

This model is complemented by the largest physical infrastructure in the country: more than 75 ueno bank X Experience Centers, open 24/7 nationwide; a network of more than 900 smart ATMs; and over 25,000 physical points for deposits and withdrawals. This combination of technology and human proximity has been key to accelerating financial inclusion.

Currently, ueno bank has more than 2.8 million customers, consolidating its leadership in number of clients, debit and credit cards issued, and transaction volume. The bank already reaches more than 60% of the country’s adult population and processes approximately 30% of all transactions in the banking system.

A structural shift backed by data
The structural transformation the country is experiencing following the arrival of ueno bank is also reflected in data from the World Bank. According to the World Bank’s Global Findex report, in 2021 fewer than 3 out of 10 Paraguayan adults had a bank account. By 2024, this indicator had grown by 70%, reaching nearly 5 out of 10 adults.

A similar trend can be observed in access to debit and credit cards. In 2021, fewer than 2 out of 10 Paraguayans had a card. By 2024, this figure increased by 106%, surpassing 3 out of 10 people.

Banking as a driver of development
Since its creation, ueno bank has focused on addressing one of the country’s main structural challenges: expanding access to high-quality financial services for the entire population.

Today, the results confirm the impact of that vision. Banking access not only allows individuals to use accounts and digital payment methods, but also opens the door to new opportunities: increased income generation, access to credit, support for entrepreneurship, and better financial management.

In this context, financial inclusion becomes a key driver for improving people’s quality of life and fostering Paraguay’s sustainable development. ueno bank is an active part of this transformation, bringing more than one million Paraguayans into the financial system for the first time. This is a structural change that drives economic formalization and expands opportunities for all.
