ueno bank announces USD 100 million capital plan to strengthen its financial position
The initiative is expected to raise the bank’s Tier 1 capital ratio to 14.9%, significantly above the regulatory minimum, while expanding participation from Paraguayan private investors.
ueno bank announced a USD 100 million capital plan aimed at strengthening its capital base and supporting the continued growth of its operations. The initiative combines a USD 50 million capital contribution from its controlling shareholder, U Holdings S.à r.l., scheduled for November 2026, with a new USD 50 million share issuance program exclusively for Paraguayan private investors.
Upon full implementation of the plan, the bank’s Tier 1 capital ratio would increase from 11.7% to 14.9%, exceeding the 8% regulatory minimum established by the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP). Its total regulatory capital ratio would also rise from 13.8% to 15.9%, compared with the required minimum of 12%, further strengthening the bank’s capital position to support its continued growth.
The initiative builds on USD 54 million in accumulated earnings as of September 30, 2026, and a USD 17 million capital contribution made by OTP Bank in May 2026. Together, these amounts would represent more than USD 170 million in capital strengthening during 2026, including contributions already made and those pending completion and regulatory approval.
The new share issuance program, for which the bank has already initiated the required procedures with the BCP, will broaden its base of local private investors, in line with ueno bank’s vision of building a bank for all Paraguayans. The program is expected to be completed within the next 60 days, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
This capital strengthening supports ueno bank’s continued expansion. The bank currently serves more than 3 million customers and has brought over 1.2 million Paraguayans into the banking system for the first time since 2021. Its international presence is further supported by a USD 350 million bond issuance and more than USD 510 million in financing from international financial institutions and global investors.
Through this plan, ueno bank is reinforcing its capacity to support business growth, expand participation from Paraguayan private investors, and continue promoting access to financial services and Paraguay’s economic development.
